In 1893, the Thirlmere valley and my Great Great Great Grandfather William's farm was flooded to provide water for Manchester. In 2018, beyond the old moss covered walls higher up, Thirlmere's level was low enough to reveal foundations, the remnants of walls and stone gate posts, a cobbled threshold, and numerous fragments of pottery tossed into an old midden.
