Tablets

Very little survives into the future. What remains of antiquity is commonly (although not exclusively) made of stone, our most durable medium. This work imagines tablets carved specifically for our unknowable descendants, to be buried and, theoretically, discovered. But humans ourselves, we are not durable, nor are our ideas. We are no time machine. What will remain of what we think in a thousand years? For whom is our immortality project addressed? This work reflects on the argument that it is folly to imagine ourselves as alive in a distant future - to project ourselves into it - or to prioritise this over what lays observably, and imminently, before us.
